I am coming back from a wrist injury that laid me up for 8 months. The first secret to injury recovery is to rest as much as possible and do rehabilitation. I tried to play at the three month period, but that was utter failure. I started to come back and play about the six month mark but very limited playing. Icing, weight rehab--the irony is weight rehab was hurting me so I laid off of that, and then, stretching.
The hardest thing at the later stages of your life--married, job, and with child is getting time on the court or time to train cardiovascular. What I did simply was keep playing once a week and focus on weight work, but my cardio suffered. The training for singles was singles and doubles.
The key is to play yourself into shape. Why? Because jogging actually hurts me, my knees and shins start to ache if I jog too much.
The plan now is to play a few tournaments to get ready and increase the playing time--we'll play on Tuesdays for four hours an Thursdays for four hours and then, my tournament match Sunday.
